complicated logistics

I had my order was shipped from an Southeast Asia country, Asia to Asia, I didn't think it took long. When it passed a month (almost forgot it), I worried whether it was lost. The shop provided me a tracking code, I looked for my order on DHL tracking site, it'd arrived transit country, Germany. I know DHL is a German service, but why did it need to go through Europe!? Must be because of the logistical system, it makes cheeper if it transfers to Europe once...how it works?
