Washi tape, one thing I noticed when looking through Postcrossing Community

Do you by any chance think that Washi tape is just a normal tape? It's a nicely coloured and designed version of

TEMPORARY-FIXING-TAPE,

which is not suitable to seal something by itself. If you want to use them to decorate your letterheads, that's fine, but it's not appropriate to use them on bare postcards or for sealing. The adhesive is so weak that it can stick to other mail and damage it.

The Japanese word '和紙 - Washi' means '日本(製)の紙 - Japanese paper.' And I suppose this is where the origin of Washi tape comes from:

We call it 'マスキングテープ - Masking tape,' or 'マステ - Maste' for short. Various manufacturers are now selling it, and it was very interesting to see the process of how a just mere temporary fixing tape turned into a fashionable tape over the last decade. I have a lot too.
