sending nengajo(年賀状)

In view of the current situation with the reduction of flights, I will send greeting cards earlier in November. The end of the year is a time of increased mail volume. In Japan it is customary to send each other postcards called 年賀状 - nengajo, which are delivered on New Year's Day if they are posted by the deadline around the end of December.

The custom of sending nengajo has become less and less popular over the years. Even I, a letter-lover, am thinking of stopping. I feel that it would be a shame to cut off the relationship that is connected only by nengajo, so I continue to do so. However, is it necessary for us to keep a relationship with each other through inertia and effort?
