春雨逍遙

in idleness

reflect the sense of the times

Have you ever heard of UNIQLO? It's an apparel retailer from Japan. When I was a child, UNIQLO set up shops in the suburbs, and its presence was unique.

However, the range of products looked cheap and poor quality, and not sure where they were made. Consumers would not openly say that they had bought their clothes at UNIQLO, but would self-deprecatingly say that had actually..., it was how we felt till around the millennium, I remember.

UNIQLO had gone global, opened shops overseas in 18 countries since 2001, starting with the UK and was no longer a shop where you could whisper 'you-know-where' but a shop where you could say it openly. In fact, it may even have become a kind of brand.

I think it's good that people nowadays can buy clothes of different designs at a reasonable price (not only at UNIQLO) and they also seem to be less committed to fashion but also more free. I rarely see anyone with a spiky fashion statement, maybe most are too shy to assert their individuality. May it not be that people have no personality to maintain.

Everybody should wear what you want to put on, which is going to be culture reflect the sense of the times. I love to look back how people dressed.
